How can Europe's Arctic regions contribute to the EU's green deal through industrial leadership and access to sustainable raw materials and batteries? This was the theme when the Swedish and Finnish trade associations for mines, minerals, and metal producers, Svemin and Finnmin, arranged a webinar about mineral extraction, battery production and recycling in partnership with the European Commission during EU Industry Week.

This year, the Arctic Futures Symposium was organized for the eleventh year in a row by the International Polar Foundation and its partners. The conference was held online and lasted for three days. Thomas Norvoll, next Chairman of Northern Sparsely Populated Areas (NSPA) between 2021-2023 and Chair of the Board at North Norway European Office, participated as a speaker on the third day.
In December, the European Commission published the European Social Progress Index (EU-SPI) for 2020. It shows that Upper Norrland have the highest level of social progress in the entire EU, followed by Helsinki-Uusimma in Finland and Central Norrland in Sweden. With high scores in fulfilling basic human needs and a high environmental quality, northern Sweden offers an attractive life environment.
On January 20, a meeting was held with the Swedish regional offices in Brussels and a delegation from the European Parliament Research Service, EPRS, on the initiative of North Sweden. The meeting concerned how the dialogue between the regional level and the European Parliament can be made more effective and strengthened within thematic issues where the regional offices have expertise.
On November 18, the second edition of last year's success Arctic Shorts was organized at the BOZAR cultural center in Brussels, where North Sweden stood as co-organizers. Seven short films from the Arctic regions were shown during the evening illustrating the beauty, challenges and real life of the Arctic.
