The yearly European Week of Regions & Cities (EWRC) has held on October 7th – 10th, where regions and cities get the opportunity to showcase how they implement the EU: s cohesion policy, the regional development work that they do. During the week the North Sweden office organized a seminal on green energy transition in sparsely populated areas, Umeå municipality participated in several seminars and Region Västerbotten organized a culture event. 26 Sep 2019 Norrbotten rewarded by EU: From three to four-star Reference Site in European healthy aging network
Region Norrbotten has stepped up in EU’s ranking system for European regions working innovatively within the health sector to develop new methods and digital solutions to promote healthy and active aging. Region Norrbotten has for a few years already been active within the EU-commission workgroup for integrated health within the innovation partnership for active healthy aging (EIP on AHA) where they this fall were awarded four stars.
26 Sep 2019 Regional representatives from EU-counties signed declaration in Umeå for social sustainability in EU
The 16-17 of September the first EU Social Progress Cities summit took place in Umeå. Region Västerbotten, together with Umeå municipality are a part of an EU pilot project called SPI Social Progress Index. The purpose of the SPI is to develop an alternate way of measuring development in comparison to BNP-growth, which is meant to work as a tool for the EU-commissions work with development strategies for regions. The conference in Umeå was the first of its kind where representatives engaged in social issues from different cities and regions participated, was closed with the signing of a declaration for social sustainability.
16 Sep 2019 EU’s commissioner for health paid Umeå a visit
EU’s commissioner of health and food safety, Vytenis Andriukaiti, visited Umeå Monday September 9th to meet with representatives of Region Västerbotten. Politicians and officials from all over the region were there to discuss issues within health- and healthcare as well as public health. - We should do more to increase the populations health. If we agree on measures and implement them together, we can increase the mental, physical and social health within the whole union, said Vytenis during his visit.
07 Mar 2016 European Commission visit to northern Sweden
The European Commission visited northern Sweden between the 24th and the 26th of February. Mikel Landabaso, Director for Inclusive Growth, Urban and Territorial Development, Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy, and Ulrich Krause-Heiber, Deputy Head of unit, European Commission, participated in Europaforum Norra Sverige (EFNS) in Piteå at the invitation of North Sweden European Office. During the three-day event, they had the chance to meet different stakeholders from northern Sweden and take part in activities in Piteå and Luleå.
