Seminar on Transport Corridors in the Barents Region

A seminar on Transport Corridors in the Barents Region - Northern Perspective to the Trans-European Transport Networks was organized jointly by North Sweden European office, NorthNorway European office, European North Lapland-Oulu office and East-Finland EU office and the Barents Euro-Artic Region. The northernmost regions of Sweden, Finland and Norway thus organised this seminar in Brussels with the purpose of creating an understanding for the importance of the industry in the region for the rest of Europe and the need to improve infrastructure in the region. Improving the infrastructure for rail transport and suitable harbour facilities for primary products from the region and increased merchandise transport from China to the US would for example reduce the burdens of congestion and pollution in central Europe. The first part of the seminar gave the perspective of the industry on the transport needs, the second discussed the transport corridors in the Barents region and the last part comprised of European Commission keynote speech and a panel discussion.

Transportpolitik
